Christina Basin Task Force Bus Tour

Are you a conservation professional or volunteer? Join us for the 2026 Christina Basin Task Force Bus Tour. This year’s tour focuses on the Brandywine Creek as a drinking water source, dam removal on the Brandywine, brownfield remediation on the Christina River and urban green stormwater infrastructure sites. Tour sites include:

• Porter Water Drinking Water Treatment Plant– tour of the water treatment process and current issues with water quality with Mary Neutz, City of Wilmington.
• Johnston Park Bioretention Project– City of Wilmington, featuring three bioretention basins presented by Kelly Wilson, Delaware Nature Society
• Rooftop of ShopRite Shopping Center– Unique birds-eye- view of CBR4 brownfield and remediation sites installed over the past 30 years and a view of new projects in design along the Christina River, with John Cargill and Todd Keyser, DNREC.

• Walking tour of Riverfront rain garden and wetland plantings with Marian Young, Brightfields
• Visit Breck’s Mill Dam and see the former site of Dam #6 (duPont) and learn about dam removal on Brandywine Creek  on a pleasant walk along the Brandywine Creek with Jim Shanahan of Brandywine River Restoration Trust
