DESCRIPTION:Young Waterfowlers Program For Teens\, Ages 11-17! \n \nWednesdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM\non Oct. 5\, 12\, 26\, Nov. 2\, 9\, & Dec. 7.\nMeets at Ashland Nature Center\, Hockessin\, DE.\n$150\, members only \nWaterfowling is an American tradition that combines hunting with an appreciation of wetlands and their wildlife. In order to instill a strong conservation ethic for all of our natural resources\, BRC and the Delaware Nature Society (DNS) is providing an exciting opportunity for youngsters ages 11 through 15. Participants will study wildlife management\, habitat protection\, conservation practices and the values of wetlands during a comprehensive introduction to the american waterfowling heritage. Special topics include identification of waterfowl\, conservation ethics\, retriever training\, decoy carving\, safety skills and good sportsmanship. An optional hunt at the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge will be offered at the conclusion of the program.\, under the supervision of experienced guides. \nParent participation is encouraged\, but not required (no extra fee). Participants will have the opportunity to fulfill the hunter safety requirements at no additional charge and will receive a certification card (required for all new hunters in PA and DE). \nIncluding weekend field trips to: Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center\, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge\, and Coastal Delaware to study marsh ecology and waterfowl identification. \nInstructors: Jim Jordan\, Executive Director of BRC; John Campanelli\, Rich Stigale\, Derek Stoner\, Jeff Kane\, Nelson Cammock\, and Neil Dougherty. \nAdvanced Young Waterfowlers –Same dates/times as above. For alumni of previous Young Waterfowler programs\, we offer additional training in the art and science of waterfowling; including advanced decoy carving and calling techniques. Hikes will take place monthly from 11:30AM-1:00PM with one of our Education Coordinators\, Environmental Instructors\, Certified Yoga Instructors\, or Certified Personal Trainers. Each hike will be physically active while enjoying discussions on various topics.
